Misrata chamber of commerce, industry and agriculture holds a meeting regarding the letter issued by director of the general department of audit and inspection at the customs authority
On Saturday morning, 21-09-2024, in the “Sea Side” meeting hall in Misurata Free zone, Mr. (Fathi Al-Amin Al-Turki), chairman of the board of directors of Misurata chamber, and Mr. (Abdul Majeed Al-Taher Balaow), vice chairman of the board of directors of the chamber, held a meeting that included major general (Khaled Arhuma Al-Dhala’a), head of Misurata free zone port customs center, and two members of the Misurata municipal council, Mr. (Hassan Al-Sadiq) and Mr. (Mustafa Al-Ahmar), a representative of the Misurata free zone, and a group of owners of companies that manufacture and supply goods within Misurata city.
During this meeting, the letter of the director of the general department of audit and inspection at the customs authority was discussed, which included the instruction to the director of the customs directorate in Misurata to oblige the Misurata free zone to adhere to the valuation lists by the piece instead of the previous procedure known as the survey valuation or by the container, as this procedure is applied to the Misurata free zone port and not to other ports within Libya, which causes the high cost of imported goods through the free zone port and its impact on the shoulders of the common citizen. During this meeting, the attendees agreed to form a committee that includes representatives of the chamber and Misurata municipal council and the Misurata free zone, the customs brokers syndicate and the transport association, and a number of businessmen to prepare a memorandum of grievance regarding this decision and submit it to the Customs Authority. The attendees also decided to resort to all the higher authorities in the state related to the decision, and to file an appeal against this decision before the judiciary if necessary.
