The seminar was held on the morning of Saturday, January 10, 2026, at the Auditorium of the Faculty of Arts under the slogan “From Liquidity Shortage to Credit Distress,” under the official patronage of Misrata Chamber of Commerce, Industry, and Agriculture. The event was attended by Mr. Fathi Al-Amin Al-Turki, Chairman of the board of directors of the Chamber, along with Mr. Yusuf Abdelkader Abusheiba, Director of the Foreign Relations and International Cooperation Department. The seminar featured a distinguished panel of experts in the economic and banking fields, including Dr. Belkacem Bazina, former advisor at the Central Bank of Libya, Mr. Abdelhamid Al-Fadil, faculty member at Misrata University, and the economic activist Mr. Mohamed Al-Barghouthi.
The seminar’s activities addressed the direct impacts of the banking crisis on Libyan consumers and its effects on the performance of the private sector and financing. It also highlighted the role of the Central Bank of Libya in managing the crisis and the challenges it faces, while presenting several reform visions and possible solutions to enhance confidence in the banking sector.
The event witnessed a broad attendance of academics, activists, and individuals interested in economic affairs. A discussion session was opened for participants to foster scientific dialogue on the current economic crisis and to explore ways to support financial and economic stability in Libya.
